Mr. Arlandar Washington

Arlandar Washington is a longtime resident of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and a dedicated member of LIUNA. He joined Laborers’ Local 819 in 1988. In 1999, Local 819 merged with five other locals to form Laborers’ Local 355, which represents members across West Michigan’s 21 counties. In 2001, Washington was hired as a Business Agent. Just two years later, he was elected Secretary-Treasurer. In August 2009, he was appointed Business Manager to complete the unexpired term of his predecessor. In June 2012, he was elected to serve as Business Manager. As Business Manager, Washington is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the local and ensuring compliance with the Constitution of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. He works to protect the jurisdiction of the union and defend the rights of its members, while enforcing collective bargaining agreements, organizing new members, and negotiating for fair wages and benefits. In addition to his leadership within Local 355, Washington serves on the Executive Board of the Southwest Michigan Central Labor Council. He is also a trustee of the Michigan Laborers Pension Fund, Training Fund, Vacation Fund, and the Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET). He represents Congressional District 6 on the Michigan Democratic Party’s State Central Committee and is an active member of the Michigan Democratic Party.
